Interior designer Marylou Sobel was given carte blanche
when it came to designing a new kitchen for her Sydney
clients. “I was given the freedom to create a new look and
design, keeping in mind the architecture and style of the
house, which can be described as Italianate,” she says.
Marylou opted for a subtle palette with specialist
finishes in place of the dramatic blue and white scheme
she initially encountered. “I added a new calmer feel to
the kitchen,” she says of her choice of stucco-finished
custom joinery, pale green glass pendants and tumbled
travertine f loors in an ivory colour.
Functionality was also an important consideration.
“The client needed more and better-designed cupboards
for storage, including an updated walk-in pantry,” explains
the designer. The walk-in pantry was added beside the
Sub-Zero fridge, now integrated in a new joinery unit.
Appliances were all updated in the process. The pièce
de résistance is without doubt the new rangehood, encased
in a custom-designed structure with a faux marble painted
timber base and copper top fabricated by Axolotl.
