Atmosphere and function were given equal importance
in this kitchen by architect Claire Scorpo. The lighting is
a good example of this approach, with three downlights over
the island bench and a more decorative copper light above
the dining table. The open shelves in the joinery also
allow the owner to display a few treasured objects, while
less attractive crockery can be stacked behind closed doors.
Timber cupboards and f loorboards work well with the
vintage wooden furniture. An old printing table sourced
from Industria is the island bench, while the dining table,
found in a shearing shed, completes the picture.
A monochromatic palette complements the timber tones,
so the bushland outside becomes the star. The splashback
tiles work well with the distressed paint of the island bench,
while a scattering of black accents adds strength.

K NOCK ON WOOD
The use of timber to reflect the bushland outside works perfectly in this rustic country kitchen.
