Logan Lucky
Channing Tatum revs up for a heist in this breezy caper set inDuck Dynasty country
COMEDY-ACTIONJimmy Logan (Channing Tatum) is a big old West Virginia boy—
he looks thicker than a meat-loaf sandwich—but not altogether agood old boy:
He teams up with his hairdresser sister Mellie (Riley Keough) and bartender brother
Clyde (Adam Driver, outfitted with a lobster-size prosthetic forearm) to rob a racetrack in
Charlotte, N.C. The story involves money sluicing through pneumatic tubes, a jailed demolitions
expert (Daniel Craig), vintage John Denver songs and, at one point, people playing horseshoes with
toilet seats. Given such nonsense—plus a cast peppered with Katie Holmes, Hilary Swank and
Dwight Yoakam—you wouldn’t be wrong if you thought this funny, slick-as-oil caper from director
Steven Soderbergh sounded like a redneck riff on the films he made with Brad Pitt and George
Clooney. Near the end you even hear the crime described as “Ocean’s 7-11.”(Aug. 18, PG-13)
