‘I don’t see
myself as^
a movie star’
W
ith an award-
winning TV
show, sold-out
international
comedy tours,
a bestselling book and
a few films under her belt,
Amy Schumer has made it –
but that’s not how she sees it!
‘I do not see myself as
a movie star at all,’ the Inside
Amy Schumer star admits. ‘I see
myself as a comedian and writer.
I’ll walk to get coffee and there’ll
be paparazzi, and that stuff is
not fun. I go: “Oh right, I’m
famous,” because I often forget.’
Her latest film offering
Snatched should surely help
the 36-year-old realise her
clout in Tinseltown.
‘Can you believe I made
a movie with Goldie Hawn?’
Amy exclaims. ‘When I read the
script for Snatched, I pictured
Goldie as my mother the whole
time. It’s a comedy with action,
and I don’t think there’s any
funnier actress for the role.’
Amy and her real-life mum
Sandra have had a turbulent
relationship over the years.
‘We were so close until the
age of 12, at which point
I became her mum. That was
when my parents divorced and
my dad was sick with [Multiple
Sclerosis]. It was just too much
for me,’ Amy divulges. ‘In the
last two years, we have had
a reinvention of our relationship.
I made peace with everything
that happened. I am in a really
good place with my mum.’
And Amy’s estimated
$22 million income in
2016 placed her fourth
on the Forbes Highest-
Paid Comedians list
- making her the
first female ever
on the list.
‘I did have the
sense growing up
being funny was
for boys, and
I did feel stifled.
It’s really hard.
Women have
always made
me laugh.’
