GRAFFITI

european and uk street rod nationals 2017
The European Street Rod Nationals is held annually and rotates around
the various countries in Europe that have active street rod associations.
For 2017 the event was set for the UK so a decision was taken by the
NSRA-UK to team it with their own NSRA Hot Rod Supernationals.
In effect, the first two days of the combined event was to be the
European Nationals, on Wednesday and Thursday (August 9 and 10),
followed by the Supernationals on Friday, Saturday and Sunday (August
11, 12 and 13).
There were seven countries represented at the Euronats with
cars coming from France, Germany, Belgium, Netherlands, Sweden,
Denmark and the United Kingdom. In 2018 the Euronats will be staged
at Sandviken in Sweden, 500 kilometres north of Gothenberg, over the
weekend of 29-30 June.
It was full-on UK Hot Rod Supernats from Friday with the venue
suddenly quite full with entrants’ cars and everything set for a big
weekend. The main feature of this day was a cruise to the Milton
Keynes museum some 30 miles from the Old Warden Nationals venue.
Not all entrants chose to make the trip but a significant number did
enjoy the pleasant cruise through the countryside. Just as well everyone
didn’t go as the museum grounds were packed to capacity and anyone
wanting food had to wait in line for quite a while. Participants made
their own way back to Old Warden during the afternoon where various
forms of entertainment were on offer from movies for the kids to live
bands and the impressive “Circle of Death” vintage stunt motorcycle
show.
The Saturday was
big but the final day
of the Supernats was
an absolute corker. The
weather was perfect,
clear and sunny with
no wind.
The Entrants
Choice winner was a
deserving choice and
appropriate for an English event, a 1959 Ford Thames 100E van that
was tastefully customised to the point that almost every panel on the
vehicle has been modified. Owner Steven Roberts was chuffed to be
chosen from a very high quality field and rightly so. His 100E is an old
project that he completed way back in the late 1990s after which it was
used for a while, then garaged for many years until it was resurrected
and totally rebuilt to its present form. It’s a beauty!
