Australian Street Rodding — November 2017

(Dana P.) #1

dream car. He sat my partner, Tammi and myself down one night and

told us his plan to build a hot rod. At this time we had no idea that he

would pass within a year.

He spoke to a few people and researched

a few shops that could do what he wanted.

He found C&W Components and the build

was soon underway. He ordered the body

and chassis from C&W along with them

ordering our wheels and motor. Dad only

saw the chassis in person being built. He

became hospital bound while the body

was being built but fortunately, dad

being one of 12 kids, everyone was taking

photos down to the hospital to hang on

the wall for him. Late in 2013 dad finally

lost his battle and passed away with all of

our family by his side. We were only a few

months into the build. I still remember

the moment I promised to finish his car. I

had no idea what I was in for.

C&W kept cracking along with it and

by that Christmas I had a rolling chassis

with the body on, motor in and it was

ready to take home. They suggested

Exhaust Innovations for the exhaust,

so that was my next stop. Bryan built a

custom made exhaust with four into one headers, three inch pipes to

the mufflers, then 2.5 inch tail pipes.

After that I was really lost as to how to keep going. A best mate
of mine, Dawso said one of his mates worked at a little hot rod
shop called East Coast Race Cars. After
speaking with them and waiting a few
weeks, they were ready for it to come in.
I took the car down to Craig at East Coast
Race Cars, spoke about a few things and
what I wanted and left it with them for
a week to see what needed to be done to
finish it off. By now the car had gone
from the tidy street rod that dad wanted
to being a rolling tribute to his memory.
The way I wanted the car finished
off meant a few little things needed to
be changed, but the boys got stuck right
into it. The car spent a bit over two
years with them. They did everything
there and the best thing about Craig and
Bundy is that they have a traditional
eye for hot rods, so they made sure I
kept my head straight and didn’t do
anything silly with the car. They then
went over everything and made all
the changes that the car now needed
with cooling and fuel. Once the car had
passed its second inspection they started
on making all the interior panels out of ally, ready for North Coast
Custom Trim to complete the upholstery.
