Australian Street Rodding — November 2017

arl “Clarkey” Clarke works in the transport industry and
is a spray painter by trade. Prior to owning this ’32 Ford
Tudor, he had a few old Holdens and a ZD Fairlane but it
wasn’t until after agreeing to look after a mate’s hot rod
that Clarkey took a serious interest in rodding.
“A mate who lives in Mount Magna dropped his T bucket off here for
me to look after for six months, telling me that the only condition of
doing so was that I drive it. I told him I would but when the car arrived
it was dirty, so my son and I got into it, scrubbed it all up and got it
looking its best. Giving it a tidy up and driving it around really got me
interested in getting my own rod. Eight years
later I’ve still got the T bucket, but my mate
still owns it.”
Another mate of Clarkey’s had this Deuce
Tudor built by the team at Fiddy Customs in
Mandurah. He lives in the south of Western
Australia and the car was rarely driven or
shown anywhere. Clarkey liked the car and
told his mate that if he ever wanted to sell the
it, he would buy it from him. Eventually the
owner decided the Tudor wasn’t suitable for
him and sold it to Clarkey in September 2014.
“I blew the motor up and I wrecked the diff.
Arachi rebuilt the motor for me and I replaced

the LSD with a Trutrac diff, upgraded the brakes and swapped the 600
carbies out for a pair of 650 Quickfuel carbies. Believe it or not, the car
gets far better fuel economy now.”
The Deuce Customs body sits on a boxed reproduction chassis with
a four bar I beam front end, a four bar coil-over nine inch rear end,
blown small block Chevy running gear, Commodore disc brakes and
HQ steering. Under that Weiand 6-71 blower is a 350 Chevy backed by
a Turbo 350 transmission. A three inch ceramic coated exhaust with
Magnum mufflers produces a wicked note and a 16 gallon repro fuel
tank stores the juice.
