CRAIG ‘STyLe’ COUNSeLL

independence day cruise - sunday 9th July 2017
Okay, for the purists the Independence Day Cruise was five days late, but that’s just the way it worked out. Hosting it on a lazy Sunday just a few
days after all of the USA had dined out on turkey and enjoyed celebrating! No turkey was on the menu but the cruise did kick off in Levin with a
decent cooked breakfast then some time to take in the hot rods and customs that had the car park overflowing! Plenty of the red, white and blue
flags adorned many a ride, folks only too happy to celebrate in style cruising in something cool from Uncle Sam’s stable.
From the breakfast venue, the cruise route headed to Smith Autos in Levin, proprietor Andy Smith is a member of Tararua Rodders and is kept
real busy through the week wrenching on cool rides, he is also a LVVTA Certifier which keeps him so busy doing the certification checks on hot rods,
muscle cars etc. The shed doors were flung open and folk could take their time checking out the projects on show.
From there the cruise headed south to the incredible venue known as “Taylorville”. Owner Clive Taylor has got one amazing hacienda, complete
with an old time flavoured gas station, ’50s diner, cool old workshop, plus a multitude of wild west buildings including an all new saloon! Here the
host club, Tararua Rodders, laid on a free barbecue, folk spent ages checking out the sheds, gas station etc., and just enjoying being surrounded by
cool cars at a venue that is easily most rodders’ dream home! n

Parking up around Taylorville, the rides looked
at home with some ultra cool buildings,
one amazing place! The 1956 Country wagon belongs to
Bull and Bridget from Tararua Rodders while the ’29 Willys is
pedalled by Rod and Heather from Wanganui Road Rodders.

The all new Taylorville Saloon was kept busy,
the place rocks! Also rocking was this pair of fine Fords, Nev
and Jo Parker own the sweet ragtop while Western Bays
Hamish Nash has the Hemi powered A roadster pickup.
