‘I grew up doing martial arts and didn’t realise ’til
I was older how much it has empowered me with
self-belief and confidence. I was eight years old
when I learnt basic moves to defend myself, and
I believe all women from any age should have this
set of skills. I’m passionate about ending domestic
violence because these skills should really only
be used as an art form or in sport – instead of
saving your life. Until that day, I will publicly
speak out against domestic violence. It is important
we all advocate for funding to support victims
and their ongoing safety, mental health concerns,
substance abuse, and address the lack of education
that surrounds all aspects of this serious social
issue.’ – CARMEN MARTON, TAEKWONDO CHAMPION

‘Knowing that one in three women have
experienced physical and/or sexual violence
perpetrated by someone known to them is
a terrifying reality. As a society, we have a
responsibility to help change these statistics
not only for our current generation but for the
generations to come. Let’s help educate girls
and boys about what is and isn’t acceptable, and
identify the red f lags. Whether they are large or
small, they all make a huge impact on women
around the country and the world. I want to help
raise awareness of the statistics, to give those
one in three the confidence to identify red f lags
and take a step towards making a change.’

‘My mission has always been to show women
their self-worth and to encourage them to live a
healthy, happy and confident life. Unfortunately,
there is an overwhelming number of women not
just in Australia but worldwide whose self-belief,
confidence and dreams are crushed by others as
a result of both physical and mental abuse. It’s so
important that women feel able to speak up. I want
those who are in a situation they no longer feel
safe in to know that I’ll be here to listen and help
in any way I can alongside these amazing people
and organisations. It is time for all us women to
support and protect one another. I’m proud to be
part of Cosmo’s campaign to end violence against
women.’ – ASHY BINES, FITNESS INFLUENCER
