Erik Thomson leads a quiet

beaches of Port Willunga
with his wife of 18 years,
actress Caitlin McDougall,
and their two children
Eilish, 10, and Magnus, six, and
the joy of having a close-knit clan
is something he also likes to extend
to his on-set family.
“Inashowlike800 Words, we can all
connect because we all know what it’s
like to be part of a family,” Erik says.
“On set, it’s very much about making
sure everyone feels included and that

for attention or that they’re not being
heard – and those rules apply to the
family environment, as well.”
Erik realises the seriousness of
his role as George Turner, playing
a widower who tries to keep his family
together while controlling his own life
and moving on. He’s often touched by
the reaction his character elicits from
fans of the series.
