ust because you’re currently
diabetes-free, it doesn’t mean
you’re immune from spikes in
blood sugar (also known as blood
glucose) – especially as you get older.
A lacklustre diet and sedentary lifestyle
can affect your body’s ability to produce
insulin and deal with glucose from food,
increasing your risk of pre-diabetes –
a precursor to Type 2 diabetes.

Diabetes Australia CEO Professor
Greg Johnson says with pre-diabetes
your ability to handle glucose is already
challenged but hasn’t yet progressed to
Type 2 diabetes. However, there’s strong
evidence that simple lifestyle changes
can prevent a diabetes diagnosis.
“Know where you stand – get checked
for diabetes, then learn how to manage
those spikes,” Professor Johnson says.
