There’s a pang of sadness at
leaving the white sand and
clear blue water of Monkey Mia,
but we have to make our way
down the coast to Kalbarri for
our overnight stay before
heading to Perth.
On the way, we stop at
Hamelin Pool to check out the
stromatolites. Living fossils
formed by cyanobacteria and
other microbes, these show
what marine ecosystems would
have looked like three billion
years ago. From one rarity to
another, we move on to Shell
Beach – an entire beach made
of trillions of tiny white Fragum
cockle shells. It’s truly an
astonishing sight.We hit the road early to cover the
whopping 603km from Kalbarri
to Perth – a long but relaxing day
which gives us time to reflect
on our six-day, 2000km journey.
Witnessing the rugged landscapes,
pristine waters and remote towns
of WA created lots of truly magical
memories. That night the group
celebrates with a buffet dinner at
the Travelodge Hotel Perth before
swapping phone numbers and
