Lord Howe Island’s
Pinetrees Lodge is
an idyllic place to
rest your head. With
sweeping views,
it offers guests an
array of activities
such as snorkelling,
fishing, golf and
birdwatching. Joining one of the regular
Ocean Swim Weeks, led by former World
and Australian Ironman champion Trevor
Hendy, makes a great start to the day.
These 2km daily paddles are a terrific way
to see the coastline, coral, underwater
volcanic cliffs and beaches.
And if that’s not enough to tempt you,
there’s the food – kingfish is a speciality
here, caught daily by the island’s fishermen.
Pinetrees Lodge is also famed for its
“Fish Fry” buffet and sunset canapés
and champagne on the boatshed deck.
Foodies will love the Food and Wine Weeks,
while the Wellness Weeks focus on yoga,
fitness and health eating. For more details,

Why we LOVE

Lord Howe Island

Nature Lying between Australia and
New Zealand, Lord Howe Island is a remnant of
a long-extinct volcano, graced with thriving wildlife
and hiking trails with astonishing views. Explore the
forests and beaches, or grab flippers and a snorkel
and dive into the crystal-clear waters.

Leisure & pleasure
From kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding and cycling
to a snappy game of golf, tennis or lawn bowls, there’s
something for everyone. If snorkelling’s not your
style, head out on a glass-bottomed boat tour of
the lagoon or hand-feed the fish at Ned’s Beach.

Wildlife It’s home to the rare Lord Howe
woodhen and providence petrel, and birdwatchers
will marvel at the more than 200 species in and
around the isle’s dense forest and coastline. Beneath
the water, abundant coral gardens and 500-plus
species of fish lure divers, anglers and photographers.

When travelling, medical issues
can be a cause for concern but
diabetes needn’t be one of them.
Regina Cowie, a pharmacist from
Priceline Pharmacy, shares her
travelling tips for diabetics:

1

Be prepared:It’s important
to continue with your hard work
to manage your diabetes while
on holiday. Being prepared will
ensure you can travel knowing
you’re able to stay healthy and
safe. Always let your doctor and
pharmacist know ahead of time

to ensure they can help you get
fully prepared.

2

Travel kit:All diabetics should
have a travel kit to take – and
this is something your Priceline
pharmacist can help you put
together so you can enjoy your
getaway safely. A travel kit
contains items such as a medical
alert bracelet, glucometer, test
strips, needles (if needed), finger
wipes, jelly beans, glucagon
hypokits, thermometers and
sharps containers, as well as vital

phone numbers you may need as
contacts in case of an emergency,

3

Manage your diet:This is key

  • everything in moderation.
    So, for example:
4 Enjoy one or two glasses of
wine, rather than the whole bottle.
4 If drinking spirits, always go for
    the sugar-free mixers/soft drink.
4 Share a dessert with your travel
buddy instead of ordering one each.
4 Stay active by walking to your
    destination rather than hopping
on a bus or train, where practical.
