S


ince the FIM Motocross World Championship started in 1957, the
U.S. Grand Prix has been held in six different states, with the up-
coming Monster Energy MXGP of the USA in Jacksonville, Florida,
soon to making it seven. WW Motocross Park will be the ninth different
American track to organize a Grand Prix event.

CARLSBAD, CA: The cir-
cuit welcomed the World
Championship 14 years in
a row between 1973 and


  1. The race was orga-
    nized by AMA Motorcycle
    Hall of Fame promoter
    Gavin Trippe.


LEXINGTON, OH: The old
Mid-Ohio motocross track
hosted the Valvoline 125cc
USGP from 1975 to ’81, as
well as a Trans-AMA event
every summer. It closed for
good in the early eighties.

UNADILLA, NY: Unadilla
hosted the World Cham-
pionship 15 consecutive
seasons between 1978
and ’92. It also hosted the
1987 Motocross of Nations
and has held a Lucas Oil
Pro Motocross round
since 1972.

DELMONT, PA: Steel City
Raceway entertained the
World Championship once,
in 1987. It closed several
years ago.

HOLLISTER, CA: The
World Championship
visited the track twice, in
1998 and 1989. It remains
a state Off-Highway Rec-
reational Vehicle park.

GLEN HELEN, CA: The
San Bernardino track would
host USGP rounds seven
times in all: three 500cc
GPs between 1990 and
1992, in 2010 and ’11, and
then again in ’15 and ’16. It
has hosted AMA Pro Moto-
cross events since 1993.

BUDDS CREEK, MD:
Budds Creek held the
World Championship in
1993, ’94, and ’99. It also
hosted the Motocross of
Nations in 2007. It contin-
ues to hold Lucas Oil Pro
Motocross races.

CHARLOTTE, NC: The
infield circuit hosted one
USGP in 2016, won by
Monster Energy Kawasaki’s
Eli Tomac (MXGP) and
Yamalube/Star Racing Ya-
maha’s Cooper Webb, then
quit the moto business.

JACKSONVILLE, FL: This
will be the first time in
the FIM Motocross World
Championship’s 61 years
that the series will visit
Florida, and it’s happen-
ing at WW Motocross Park
on the first weekend in
