Nourish - November 2017

continues to produce the exceptional
small batch gin to overwhelmingly
positive reviews.
Reid+Reid Gin is run by brother
team Chris and Stew Reid. After
road tripping through Scotland, the
brothers were inspired to turn their
hand to gin. After launching their
successful classic dry gin, Reid+Reid
has just launched a pinot noir barrel-
distilled version.
A rather new addition to the
exceptional alcoholic offerings of
Martinborough is Martinborough
Brewery. With the rise in popularity
in craft beer, the ethos here is natural
ingredients blended with passion.
Both the Black Nectar stout or Foxy
Red ale are local favourites.

Restaurants
When looking for a delectable
dinner spot, you can’t go past Salute

in Greytown. Tapas are the best
choice here after a day of sampling
the region’s best offerings. The fried
haloumi is a must-have and local
Parkvale mushrooms can’t be missed.
Most dishes offer an authentic
Mediterranean/Middle Eastern
f lavour, so anything with f latbreads
and hummus is a no-brainer. If you’re
not too full, the lemon fritters are an
absolute favourite, sweet and zingy and

not too rich, it’s the perfect end to a
delicious meal.

Kiwi tucker
If that all sounds too fancy, tuck into
real Kiwi food from one of the many
Cambodian bakeries. These gems are
dotted throughout the region’s small
towns, and you can’t go past fried chicken
with chips, a ‘Longest Drink in Town’
milkshake and a slice of classic lolly cake.

TOAST MARTINBOROUGH
Now in its 25th year, Toast Martinborough is a coming-together of exceptional
booze, food and music in the wine-lovers heaven that is Martinborough. On
Sunday 19th November, eight spectacular vineyards invite you to sample
wines, wander the vines, nosh on delectable food and watch live bands in an
experience that gets better every year.
This year's vineyards include Ata Rangi, Margrain and the very special Dry
River – whose wines can be quite hard to come by. In typical Wairarapa
style, the event is fun and family friendly. Each vineyard has different wines
to taste offers its own entertainment and ample amounts of food to enjoy.
But taste wisely, because there’s plenty of this region to explore.
Group packages as well as single tickets are available and buses to trains and
accommodation are readily available. Check out toastmartinborough.co.nz for
more information and help to book your experience.
