Underneath the Mini
Clubman’s snag-like
exterior lurks arguably
the most conventional
car of this foursome,
mainly because it isn’t
trying to infuse itself
with the taste of SUV.
But it’s actually related
to one – BMW’s X1
(above), which shares
its 2670mm wheelbase
with both the Mini
wagon and the mumsy
2 Series Active Tourer.
The 500X, Vitara
and Cactus can also
trace their mechanical
roots to various other
vehicles, not all of
which are cars.
The Fiat is famously
twinned with Jeep’s
Renegade and is built
in its Melfi plant in
southern Italy; the
Suzuki Vitara is
screwed together in
Hungary alongside its
S-Cross relative; and
Citroen’s Cactus comes
from Madrid, rather
than the Mulhouse
plant in France that
cranks out its C4 and
DS 4 relatives.

The Mini looks like a sausage dog,

which is kinda weird for a car
