A new yarn to enter the market in 2016
is the Alpaca Cloud Fingering Yarn – a
soft, light and amazingly warm fibre.
Perfect for shawls and light accessories,
Alpaca Cloud can also be doubled
for gorgeous garments you’ll wear
constantly. The latest yarn is made from
100% superfine alpaca and available in
50g hanks with 200 yards.
Another yarn to put to the test
is the recently released Perciosa
Fingering yarn. The yarn is a single
ply made from 100% merino yarn,
hand dyed in semi-sold tonal colours.
The incredibly luxurious yarn is now
available in range of tonal jewel-like
colours and sold in 100g hanks with
437 yards.

New yarns to test

A study by Cardiff University in the
United Kingdom revealed that knitting
has significant psychological and social
benefits, all of which
can contribute to greater wellbeing
and quality of life. In a survey of
3,545 knitters, those who knitted
for relaxation, stress relief
and creativity reported higher
cognitive functioning and improved
communication and social contact. We
can’t think of a better reason to get
knitting more often!

Knitting for a cause Did you know?

For knitting enthusiasts that would
like to give back to a worthy cause,
there is a wonderful charity called
Wrap with Love that needs support
from knitters. Founded in 1992,
Wrap with Love began with the idea
to help as many people as possible
by providing them with warm wraps
to ward off hypothermia. Over the
past 20 years, the not-for-profit
organisation has sent more than
323,000 wraps to people in over
75 countries, including Australia,

with the help of hardworking
and generous volunteers. These
volunteers assist with knitting,
crocheting or machine knitting
Wrap with Love personal wraps.
Finished wraps, squares and yarn
are then sent to Wrap with Love by
craftworkers and community helpers
from all over Australia.
