on sts then pull tight to close gap and
fasten off. Stitch wings to each side
of body.
Using oddments of yarn or embroidery
thread sew a V for the beak and use 3
long stitches for each foot.
Oversew the eyes in place.
Cut ribbon to your desired length and
stitch securely in place on top of each
bird’s head then tie securely to your
wooden hoop (you may wish to stitch
in place to make it extra secure). Use
more ribbon to hang the ring.


CAT
Using 4.00mm needles throughout.
Body and Head (Make 2 Pieces)
Begin at lower edge of body, cast on
10 sts.
Row 1: K into front and back of each
st to end. 20 sts.
Row 2: Purl.
Working in st st inc 1 st at each end of
the needle on the next 4 rows. 28 sts.
Work a further 8 rows in st st without
shaping.
Dec 1 st at each end of the needle
on the next and following 3 alt rows.
20 sts.
P 1 row.
This completes the lower body.
Next Row: dec row – (K2tog, K1)
6 times, K2tog. 13 sts remain.
P 1 row.*


Shape Head
Next Row: inc row – (K1, inc in next
st) 6 times, inc in last st. 20 sts.
Inc 1 st at each end of the needle on
every row until 32 sts are on the needle.
Work 11 rows without further inc
finishing on a Purl row.
Dec 1 st at each end of the needle
on the next and every following alt row
until 20 sts remain.


Purl 1 row.
Next Row: dec row – (K2tog)
10 times.
10 sts remain. Cast off purlwise.

MAKING UP
With RS of front and back together
backstitch all edges leaving cast off
edges open for stuffing. Turn right
side out, stuff evenly and firmly
and close opening. With a length of
matching yarn run a gathering thread
around the neck, pull up tightly and
secure.

PAWS (MAKE 4 PIECES)
Cast on 14 sts and work 10 rows st
st.
Next Row: dec row – (K2tog)
7 times. 7 sts.
Leaving a long end break yarn and
thread through remaining sts, draw up
firmly and secure. With wrong sides
together top sew row ends leaving
cast on edge open. Stuff firmly and
sew to body as illustrated.

EARS (MAKE 4 PIECES)
Cast on 13 sts and work 2 rows in st
st.
Dec 1 st at each end of next and

every alt row until 7 sts remain.
Dec 1 st at each end of the needle on
next 2 rows. 3 sts remain.
Next Row: P3tog and fasten off.
With wrong sides of 2 pieces tog
top stitch all round edge leaving cast
on edge open. Stuff lightly and close
opening. Sew ears to top of head
(use photo as guide).

TAIL
Cast on 14 sts and work 36 rows
in st st.
Next Row: * K2tog, rept from
* to end.
Break yarn, thread through remaining
7 sts, draw up firmly and fasten off.
With right side outside fold tail in
half.
Leaving cast on edge open top stitch
down length of tail, stuff and sew to
back of Cat.

FACE
Using Black yarn embroider features
as in photograph.
