I
n the morning session, first up were
the ladies senior fours. The team of
C Grimes, J Holmes, S Mcginnigle
and J Mayo of Jersey Bowls Club
defeated the team of M Breen, C Derrien,
J Laffoley and C Le Goff 26-12.
Also up in the morning session was
Alan Shaw of Jersey Bowls Club taking
on Merv Richardson of St Saviours
Bowls Club in the men’s senior singles.
Alan was able to beat Merv in a good
game, 21-16.
The final game in the morning session
was the men’s national fours.
The defending champions and three
of the four 2016 British Isles Fours
Champions, M De Sousa, G Davis,
S Ruderham and M Rive were up
against Jersey Bowls Clubs R Clive, R
Macdonald, A Stewart and J Douglas.
Continuing what they have done all
season, the JBC Fours shocked the
defending champions 23-12.
Take two for
Jersey finals
In the afternoon sessions, the newly
crowned men's national fours champions
played again in the men’s senior fours
against fellow JBC members A Quemard,
C Renouf, A Shaw and D Boswell.
R Clive and co continued their fine
form for the day, winning 17-15.
Next up were the national ladies triples,
pitting JBC’s Y Andrews, J Holmes and
J Mayo faced St Saviours G Le Long,
M Smith and J Cooper. In a very close
fought match the JBC team narrowly won
16-15.
Men’s British Isles singles champion
Tommy Greechan teamed up with fellow
St Brelade Bowls Club member Mike
Videgrain to take on the formidable
pair and multiple time national men’s
pairs champions Malcolm De Sousa and
Michael Rive from The Sun B.C.
Tommy and Mike showed sheer
class and skill on the green and ran out
comfortable winners 25-8.
The final game of the afternoon session
was the ladies set singles with Sue Noel
facing Chris Grimes.
True to the word of sets, Sue lost the
first set 11-2 before winning the second
set narrowly 9-8 and coming away as the
winner on the tie break, 5-4.
Unfortunately, September 3, when the
rest of the finals were due to take place
was a washout due to torrential rain.
Even though some matches started the
green was unplayable and it was agreed
to play at a later date.
These were scheduled for September
30, but due to holidays and commitments
some games were played before then.
The ladies national fours was played
before, with the Sun B.Cs J Renouf,
J Knight, E Vowden and C Le Sueur
beating St Brelade B.Cs D Moon, C
Greechan, L Murphy and D Canavan
32-3.
The ladies national pairs was also
played and JBC's C Grimes and S
Mcginnigle defeated St Saviour B.Cs A
Richardson and A Bisson.
TAKE TWO
Finally, after a fantastic week of Les
Creux hosting the EBU championship,
the remaining finals took place.
In the morning session, superstar
bowler Chloe Greechan faced Sun B.C's
Kim Gallichan in her first national final
in the Ladies National U25s. Chloe’s vast
experience and skill saw her emerge with
a 21-2 victory.
Chloe’s younger brother Taylor
Greechan was also in action in the men’s
On September 2, Jersey bowlers gathered at Les Creux Bowls Club
to play out the 2017 national finals.
