This classy venue returned to the big time a
year ago when it staged the British Masters,
a decade after Tiger Woods romped to a
famous World Golf Championship victory at
‘London’s Country Club’.
Sitting in 300 acres of countryside a short
drive from the M25 and Watford and less
than 25 miles from central London, it is a
special place – on and off the course.
It provides luxury accommodation in 26
historic Mansion House suites and 191 rooms
within the contemporary West Wing along
with superb facilities and activities. These
include the sumptuous Sequoia Spa and the
Walled Garden featuring a heated outdoor

pool where you can unwind in style.
However, the piece de resistance is the
Kyle Phillips-designed course itself: it boasts
a terrific mix of holes starting with a relatively
straightforward left dogleg par-4 opener and
downhill 2nd. But the pace really picks up
from the demanding stroke index 1 par-4 3rd
with the green sitting beyond a pond and
the entrance road. Other highlights include
the tree-lined par-4 10th and the intriguing
stretch of holes from 13 to 16 on a piece of
land the furthest away from the resort.
The course has benefited from improved
drainage on 13 holes plus the renovation of all
90 bunkers and is always in tip-top condition

while you’ll do well to find a better set of
inland greens anywhere. And, as you would
expect, the practice facilities are first-class.
Fine dining is available in Colette’s and
other eating options include less formal The
Stables and our favourite, The Glasshouse,
which serves up the best buffet ever!
