here are some incredible par-3s on
the west coast of North America.
Pebble Beach has one. So does
Cypress Point. But a new course in Mexico
has a short hole to rival anything in the world
in terms of spectacular drama. This
seemingly tiny sliver of green on top of a

Pacific Ocean clifftop is the par-3 17th at the
new Dazante Bay GC, a 7,100-yard Rees
Jones layout on the Baja Peninsula, about
1100 miles south of LA. From the tips it plays
about 180; it’s shorter from the daily tees,
which are set at a different angle to open up
the green. Fortunately, it’s not quite as scary

as it looks from the tee, with a horseshoe-
shaped bunker on three sides stopping errant
balls dropping 250 feet into the Sea of Cortez.
Even so, Jones predicts: “I have no doubt that
No.17 will be one of the best par 3s in the
world.” Looking at these pictures, we’re not
going to argue.

World’s most spectacular par 3?

FIRST LOOK

We’ve never seen a short hole quite as dramatic as this new one in Mexico
