THEY DID WHAT?

Arnold Palmer’s grandson, Sam Saunders,
has quietly gone about his business on the
PGA Tour this year. Two top 10s and
$678,117 in prize money saw him finish the
2016/17 season with a FedEx Cup ranking of
129, just four places short of making the
playoffs. Instead, the 30-year-old found

himself relegated to the Web.com Tour
finals last month in hope of retaining his full
PGA playing status.
He entered the Web.com Tour
Championship placed 24th in the race for 25
PGA Tour cards, and got off to the best
possible start as he mixed one bogey with 13
birdies to become only the seventh man in
history to break 60 on the Web.com Tour.
Saunders did it in style, too, draining a
10-footer for birdie – his sixth in a row – on
his home course at Atlantic Beach Country
Club to sign for a 12-under 59.
Along the way, he took 20 putts and

finished more than nine strokes better than
the field average – and that was despite
needing two shots to get out of a bunker. He
didn’t quite reach the same heights
thereafter, and had to make do
with a runner-up finish behind
Jonathan B d B h f
he secured
his PGA Tour
card for
another year
probably
made up for
that!

PGA Tour card on the line?
No sweat for Sam Saunders

f you’re a billionaire golfer who’s
looking for a new yacht, we’ve
found the perfect choice! The 344-
foot Fairwei (see what they’ve done there?)
is what happens when a design studio and a
pro try to create the perfect cruiser. The Grey
Design/Zues Twelve studio worked with golf
pro Francis Jacquemin, who helps rich
golfers groove their swing on their own
charter yachts. So, if you’re fed up of
swimming in the lower-deck pool, you can
grab your clubs and tee off from one of four
top-deck boxes or practice your putting on
two artificial greens. It even comes stocked
with floating greens, an on-board simulator
and biodegradable balls that will dissolve in
less than 48 hours.
