County Down for just £75 and Carnoustie’s

rate. See page 100 for our pick of the best

VISIT...
The Famous Nine at Gwel an Mor
Portreath in Cornwall may be best known
as the location for Doc Martin, but that
could be about to change thanks to a new
nine-hole golf course, which takes
inspiration from iconic holes around the
world. Designed using all weather tees and
greens, the ‘Famous Nine’ at Gwel an Mor
Resort cost £2 million to build and features
adaptations of the 17th at TPC Sawgrass,
the 12th and 16th at Augusta and the Road
Hole at St Andrews. Bernard Gallacher,

who opened the par-3 course last month,
told TG: “The most life-like was the hole
inspired by the ‘Postage Stamp’ (Troon) –
when I stood on the tee it felt exactly like
it.” Green fee: £15 Mon-Fri; £18 Sat-Sun.

WATCH...
The Race to Dubai
The battle for bragging rights on the
European Tour reaches its conclusion next
month, when the DP World Tour
Championship returns to Jumeirah Golf
Estates in Dubai on November 16-19.
Tommy Fleetwood leads the way in the
Race to Dubai standings, but results at the
Turkish Airlines Open (November 2-5) and
Nedbank Golf Challenge (November 9-12)
will have a bearing on who takes home the
€1,250,000 bonus prize. You can watch all
the action unfold by tuning
into Sky Sports Golf.

EXPERIENCE
The 2018 European

The latest red putters
If you haven’t realised it yet, red is in vogue
right now. Dustin Johnson, Sergio Garcia
and Jon Rahm have used and won with a
TaylorMade Spider Tour Red putter this
year. Studies suggest red can help your
focus and make you more accurate, which
is why there’s been plenty of hype
surrounding TaylorMade’s crimson-
coloured collection of TP putters. There’s
six available, and we’ve tested three of
them to see how they stack up versus the
Odyssey O-Works #7S and the EVNRoll
ER6R. See page 83.

PRE-ORDER
Wilson Staff DX
Optix golf balls
If you want to add
some colour to the
golf course, ditch the
bad language and
invest in some
fluorescent golf balls
from Wilson Staff. Available in yellow,
orange, pink, green and red colourways,
the DX2 Optix balls have been redesigned
to include a 3% larger core and a shallower
dimple pattern for increased ball velocity,
higher trajectory and longer distances.
Perfect for winter golf, we reckon.
RRP £19.99 (dozen).

LOOK OUT FOR...
The Major Series of Putting
Have you ever wondered what it would feel
like to hole a putt to win a major? The
MSOP Championship in Las
Vegas gives amateurs the
chance to find out. From
October 27, qualifiers and
paid entrants can test their
skills with the putter as they
compete for up to $75,000 on
a stadium putting course near
the Vegas strip. The event, which
runs until November 5, also
includes a two-day All Pro
Championship, which will
be headlined by Brad
Faxon and PGA Tour
stars Colt Knost and
Graham DeLaet.
