Dolphin Digest — October 2017

(vip2019) #1
Dolphins record:3-
This time last year: 1-
Time of game: 2:
The big story: The Dolphins produced
one of the most remarkable comebacks
in franchise history as they overcame a
17-0 halftime deficit to stun the NFC
defending champion Falcons. Cody
Parkey’s two fourth-quarter field goals
proved the difference after Jay Cutler
threw two touchdown passes in the
fourth quarter. Safety Reshad Jones
sealed the victory in the final minute
after the Falcons had driven to the Dol-
phins 31-yard line with a chance to tie
or even win the game in regulation.
Play to remember: Jones was at the
right place at the right time when he
picked off a Matt Ryan pass intended
for tight end Austin Hooper, but rookie
cornerback Cordrea Tankersley de-
serves a big assist on the play after get-
ting his hand on the ball as it was
getting to Hooper, causing it to bounce
into the air.
Play to forget: There either was a
busted coverage or second-year corner-
back Xavien Howard was beaten badly
on the play, but regardless the end result
was Falcons wide receiver Marvin Hall,
one day after being recalled from the
practice squad, found himself wide
open for a 40-yard touchdown reception
in the first quarter.
Turning point: This is pretty easy. The
touchdown pass from Cutler to Jarvis
Landry that cut the Dolphins deficit to
17-14 late in the third quarter came two
plays after a Falcons interception was
nullified by defensive tackle Grady Jar-
rett getting flagged for roughing the
passer. Earlier in the drive, the Dolphins
converted a third-and-9 from midfield
when Atlanta was called for a defensive
pass interference against Jakeem Grant.
It was over when: The Jones intercep-
tion came on first-and-10 from the Dol-
phins 26-yard line after Miami had
taken a timeout with 47 seconds left.
The Falcons went for the touchdown
and the win, but Ryan got greedy in try-
ing to fit in that pass to Hooper, who
was closely guarded by Tankersley the
whole way.
