Adult Movements during the Breeding Season


Literature would be the poorer without the opportunity to chronicle
the joy and the problems encountered by people as they reproduce and
create the next generation. While it is difficult to assess what joy sea-
birds reap, they unquestionably face problems when embarking on
reproduction.
The first problem is that they must nest onshore, often on cliffs or
islands safe from predators. Such places are not necessarily close to the
best feeding grounds, especially if the species is one specialising on low-
