how seabirds catch food | 179
It almost defies belief that the seabirds we see in two dimensions,
essentially at or very close to the sea surface, are actually catching food
and making a living in three dimensions. From the Great Frigatebird
1,000 m high in the tropical sky to the Emperor Penguin at a frigid
depth of 500 m, different species are actually occupying three dimen-
sions. Their capacity to thrive in the marine environment is, once more,
more remarkable than we ever anticipated.
