6 BOWHUNTER /// SEPTEMBER 2019
ALL OF US HERE at Bowhunter are still
missing our friend and colleague, Dwight
Schuh. But life goes on. The hunt contin-
ues. And so must we. The loss of Dwight
has left a void in our magazine, particular-
ly on the back page where Dwight’s Wild-
side column regularly appeared. However,
we know that Dwight would approve of
the man we've asked to write a new back-
page column entitled, The Quest.
Without a doubt, Randy Ulmer is an
archery and bowhunting icon as well. A
Bowhunters Hall of Fame member since
'99, Randy was formally inducted into the
Archery Hall of Fame in 2016. For years,
Randy dominated competitive archery,
and while we lack the space here to docu-
ment his archery achievements, suffice it
to say that he won many world titles. And
as a bowhunter, we know Randy as per-
haps the most accomplished mule deer
bowhunter ever, but he also has taken
many huge bull elk, the Grand Slam of
Sheep, and at last count was just a handful
of species short of the Super Slam. Randy
Ulmer’s archery and bowhunting cre-
dentials are impeccable, and his excellent
writing should be familiar to Bowhunter
readers. We are both excited and honored
to have Randy join our hunting party as a
regular columnist.
Another addition who has appeared
in these pages often, including an article
on page 106 of this issue, Ron Niziolek,
is a Wyoming bowhunter who is deeply
involved in his passion. Ron is active in
his state bowhunting organization, he’sa
li fe member of the Rocky Mountain Elk
Foundation, a member of the Pope and
Young Club, and he's an advocate with
the Wyoming Game & Fish Depart-
ment. Ron lives in Cody, Wyoming, with
his wife, Carol, an accomplished bow-
hunter in her own right. Ron works asa
ci vil engineer, but because he's one of the
most ethical, hard-working bowhunters
and writers we know, we've added him to
our Contributors list.
Finally, last issue we added another
very familiar face to our Contributors
li st. Danny Farris served as this brand's
associate publisher for well over a de-
cade, and while he has embarked ona
new professional endeavor, we've deter-
mined that he's not going to be a stranger
to readers of these pages or to our TV
audience. Besides being our longtime
fr iend and hunting buddy, Danny isa
very skilled bowhunter who is always
thinking outside the box and we're hap-
py to keep him on as a member of our
hunting party.
