TheDualTracsystemusesAgLeader’snew range of GPS 7500


globalnavigationsatellitesystem(GNSS) smart antennae, which
canbewiredtothesteeringvalvein a steer-ready tractor, or

throughvalvesthecompanyfitsthemselves.


Thissystemgivesit accesstomultipleGNSS signals for
upto“sub-inchaccuracyandincreased performance in

variableterrain”.


Thisaccuracyis availableevenwhenmoving at an ultra-low
speed,aslittleas0.08km/h– whichthecompany says makes it

idealforoperationsrequiringveryprecise steering – including


plantingorharvestingbeddedcropsand specialty crops.


Amosexplainsthesystemusestheleft-hand antenna to carry
outpositioningworkandguidanceforthe AB line, while the right

handantennaprovidesa headingreference.


“Soif I knowwhichwayI amfacing,whether I am at a standstill
ornot,it knowsinstantlywhichwaytomove. So if I am on an AB

lineandI pullupandI wanttogobackwards, it knows that I am


alreadyonthatlineandit alwaysknows which way it is facing.”
Whiletheproductmightappealtoa broadacre farmer, Amos

explainedthata singleantennawouldnormally suffice when


farmersaretravellingatbetweenthreeand 30km/h.
“Whenyoustartgoingbeloworabovethat, this is where it

comesintoitsown,”hesays.


“Largecontractsprayersmaytakeone if they are really
chasingthataccuracy– butcertainlyit is relevant for the

vegetablemarket,wherethereis a lotof low speed work done


andreversingthroughrows– it hasinfinite reverse, so you can


autosteerbackwardsindefinitely.
“Soif youarestuckin themiddleofa row, in the vegetables,

youjustbackout– it is nota problemfor this machine.”

or precision agriculture company Ag Leader, two heads are


better than one – especially when it comes to its remote


steering system.
Able to be retrofitted to tractors, the company’s own dual-

antenna automated steering system, DualTrac, was launched in


Australia late last year.
Ag Leader sales manager for the Asia-Pacific Douglas Amos

says the company had previously sold Novariant’s A5 steering


systems and its own Paradigm system for digital steer-ready
vehicles in Australia.

“After the Paradigm we went to a single antenna solution...


but we would still get requests for the dual antenna and it was


something that we did very well, so we decided last year that
we needed to bring it back.

“It has been very well received – it does exactly what people
