I’d decided on the early 1939

I was building at the time, and
the chocolate brown is rather
irresistible.... The sharp splinter
pattern meant that hard-edged
masking was the order of the
day, starting with a light pre-
shade with Tamiya XF-69 NATO
Black, and the basic colours as
recommended by Eduard of
Mr Hobby H67 for the RLM 65
undersides, H308 for the RLM
63 grey, H303 Green for the RLM
62 and inally Tamiya XF-64 for
the brown. I confess to being
a bit sceptical about the H308
for the RLM 63, I know it’s a
controversial colour, but out of
the jar, the 308 looked too blue
to me. I ended up over spraying
it quite considerably using
Tamiya XF-20 to warm up the
tone. Both the green and brown
colours were post-highlighted
with lightened versions of the
paint, concentrating on the
panel centres and some very
dilute Tamiya X-19 Smoke
was used to give some depth
to some of the panel lines.
After a couple of days drying,
the entire airframe was given
several thin coats of Mr Hobby
H30 gloss clear in anticipation
of decaling. The decals need
some care and planning
since they release incredibly
quickly; a count of ive in warm
water is enough to have them
loating of the backing, so
think through the handling
before committing. Having
been caught out early on I used
only water to position them,
following up with Micro Sol.
Most of the schemes use very
large code letters, some with big
swathes of decal ilm and I did
have some problems with minor
bubbles and silvering. A sharp
scalpel and Mr Hobby Mr Mark
Softer improved things. The
undercarriage legs are pretty
straightforward and etched
parts are included to represent
the brake lines. Despite this, I
