for the interior and exterior of

the airframe, these being 72659,

73616 and 73617, Eduard Steel

Belts for all the seats 73568, a

set of masks CX497 and a set of

Master B17 turned brass guns

AM-72-125. The brass alone

amounted to seven very full

sets with around 300 parts!

Closer inspection of the kit’s

engine fronts showed that the

moulding was a bit lat and

lifeless, so I contributed a set of

Quickboost B17G resin engines

QB72314 myself. Should anyone

out there be contemplating

a similar detailing job, I’d

recommend downloading the

Eduard instruction sheets

for these enhancements in

advance, so you know what

you’re in for. Such is the level

of additional etched detail, and

the degree to which plastic kit

parts are replaced or modiied

that it’s important to go

through the kit instructions

with the Eduard ones to hand,

preferably marking up the

former where bits are diferent.

BUILDING BEGINS

Construction starts

conventionally with the light

deck where the multi-part

pilot’s seats are added to the

loor, with the control yokes,

instrument panel and throttle

pedestal, I cut of the one-piece

throttles and replaced them

with wire. Much of the interior

is painted Humbrol 195, which

after a bit of searching through

equivalence charts, I replaced

with Tamiya XF-61 Dark Green.

The Eduard seat belts add

some extra detail and

interestingly, there’s

no instrument panel

The only issue with closing the fuselage

was right at the front, probably due to

some inaccuracy in building the interior

There’s etched detail to enhance

the interior of the wheel wells

The structure of the inner nacelles and wheel bay is quite complex, and exaggerated if the

etched enhancements are used which, can interfere with the close fit of the plastic
