Vinson Cunningham (“What Are You
Laughing At?,” p. 32) has been a staff
writer since 2016.

Joyce Carol Oates (Books, p. 63) is the
2019 recipient of the Jerusalem Prize
for Literature. Her latest novel, “My
Life as a Rat,” will be published in June.

David Owen (“Volumetrics,” p. 26) is the
author of the forthcoming book “Vol-
ume Control: Hearing in a Deafening
World,” which is based on his article in
the April 3, 2017, issue of The New Yorker.

Ana Juan (Sketchbook, p. 41) is the il-
lustrator of the children’s-book series
“Fairyland.”

Vijay Seshadri (Poem, p. 58) has con-
tributed to the magazine since 1991.
His most recent book, “3 Sections,” won
the Pulitzer Prize for poetry in 2014.

Lauren Groff (Fiction, p. 56) is the au-
thor of five books, including the novel
“Fates and Furies.” Her latest, the short-
story collection “Florida,” received the
2018-19 Story Prize.

Ariel Levy (“Broken Ground,” p. 44) ,
who became a staff writer in 2008, is
the author of, most recently, the mem-
oir “The Rules Do Not Apply.”

Joshua Yaffa (“A Learned Neighbor,”
p. 18), a Moscow correspondent for the
magazine, was a fellow at the Ameri-
can Academy in Berlin this past fall.

Margaret Talbot (Comment, p. 13) has
been a staff writer at the magazine
since 2004.

Diana Ejaita (Cover) is an illustrator
and a textile designer based in Ber-
lin. This is her first cover for The New
Yorker.

Peter Schjeldahl (The Art World, p. 60),
the magazine’s art critic, is the author
of “Let’s See: Writings on Art from
The New Yorker.”

Rosanna Warren (Poem, p. 35) is the
author of several books, including the
poetry collection “Ghost in a Red Hat.”
Her next book, “So Forth,” will be pub-
lished in 2020.
