POLARIS
SAILING HAT
The quick-drying, water-
repellent, UV-proof Polaris hat,
made for sailing by well-known
hatmaker Tilley, has a stiffened
brim to stop it flapping in a
gale. It also features a
workmanlike chin-strap, a
fold-out ‘French legionnaire-
style’ sunshade to keep the sun
from your neck, a secret
pocket inside the crown and
even somewhere to clip your
sunglasses. To wear, it feels
very light and comfortable.
Altogether, it’s a lot to
ask of one hat, but
Tilleys are made of
the right stuff.
Guaranteed for life.

with a helium valve and power
reserve indicator. Dive time:

OVERBOARD
BAGS
There’s nothing like watching
your sleeping bag bounce out of
the dinghy and into the drink
as you’re being ferried onto
the yacht for a weekend afloat.
“It will dry out in no time”
proclaim crewmates earnestly,
between smirks. Fat chance.
Waterproof luggage is the
answer, and this range of
technical duffels, rucksacks
and cycle frame bags are
guaranteed to keep your
essentials dry. Features include
pinch & fold sealing, valves to
remove air and very rugged
PVC build. £49.99 to £179.99

LANCASTER
NAV STATION
LIGHT
While looking for a replacement
nav table lamp for 1965 racing
yacht Balandra, the boat’s
Australian owner Jamie Sunders
came across UK-based Pete
Adams who specialises in
restoring Anglepoise lamps from
Lancaster bombers – as in
Balandra’s original fit-out. Now
Balandra’s getting an upgrade
with an even rarer brass unit from
a Short Sunderland Flying Boat,
but there’s no reason an original
aluminium Lancaster-spec
Anglepoise wouldn’t grace your
classic boat’s nav station. £700
