SPORT MIAMI
Here is an example of the company’s Sport
range. They range in size from 25-33ft
(7.6m-10.1m) and are “sturdy in construction,
with enough width and fl air along the sides for
sea-going comfort” according to Hacker. The look
is based on an old runabout, but all sorts of
modern features can be added for utility and
comfort, among them built-in steps and swim
platforms for easy boarding from the water – great
for swimming, waterskiing, tubing and so on.
Most people know about John L Hacker, one of the greatest
waterspeed record holders of the 20th century, and the mahogany
runabouts that his company pioneered decades before Riva. Not
everyone knows that they still build boats in mahogany to this day;
10-12 a year, with a build time of 7-14 months and prices starting at
$267,000 (c£205,100). Here are three new mahogany Hackers you
can buy today. See hackerboat.com for more details.
SPORT TENDER
Hacker makes a range of yacht tenders, usually bespoke.
Clients over the world include famed classic super
yachts like Christina O and Talitha G. This 31ft (9.4m)
example forsakes the aftmost third cockpit for a sunpad
and places the driver amidships, with a large, forward
cockpit seating the passengers in a U-shaped
confi guration, with their own embarkation point.
Power is from twin 260hp diesels.
TRIPLE-COCKPIT 30-FOOTER
The triple-cockpit is a rarity in Europe – and not that common in the USA, either. This
one is part of the company’s “runabout” range, the most traditional to our eyes, with
the pronounced taper of the deck meeting the outward fl are of the tumblehome as
the eye moves aft. You can choose two or three cockpits, from 24-35ft (7.3m-10.7m),
and Hacker Craft pride itself on the boats’ ability to “plane level” which is great for
helm visibility comfort – and keeping the wine glass from tumbling over. A style icon
from the originator of the genre.
