CLASSIC BOAT JUNE 2019

Even by modern standards, FIREBIRD, Robert Clark’s

understated masterpiece defies the norm that classic yachts don’t

have enough accommodation, whilst performing well enough

to win a transatlantic race in the early 1990s. Lovingly looked

after by Italian family owners for most of her life, including recent

replacement of her expansive deck. Whether for enjoying la dolce

vita with her huge cockpit and sunbathing areas, or letting her

roam blue waters, FIRE BIRD is one of the finest classic yachts of

her size available today.

60 ft Norman Dallimore Bermudan Ketch 1937 68 ft Robert Clark Bermudan Yawl 1963

BLUE TROUT is the largest expression of the remarkable

designer-builder relationship between Norman Dallimore and

William King & Sons that majored on fast cruisers with classic

good looks, attention to detail, the finest of materials and great

sailing qualities. And she may be one of the best proven, having

taken her present owner safely and comfortably, singlehanded

from Greece to England, with a little detour via Antigua along the

way. In more recent seasons, though sailing less miles, she has

been very carefully cared for and upgraded, remaining afloat and

well covered from the elements when out of commission.

51 ft Bristol Channel Pilot Cutter William Stoba

1904/2010

The Bristol Channel Pilot Cutter type has long been held in the

highest of esteem as the perfect all round sailing vessel, and

ALPHA completely fits that billing. Her long and interesting life

has been guaranteed to last many more years after a restoration

undertaken by and under the supervision of some of the best

possible practitioners of their craft, for owners who really knew

what they wanted. Independent of all the superb craftsmanship,

the key element that has been restored in ALPHA is her ability

from birth as a superbly easily handled vessel under sail and

power by just two people, whilst offering the most comfortable of

accommodation for long periods with plenty of space for friends.

£425,000 Lying UK

61 ft John Alden Yawl 1940

Alden’s designs were influential in generating interest in offshore

sailing; their strength and short ended hulls offering security and

an easy motion. IRONDEQUOIT II is a powerful, easily driven

yacht and fast passage maker. She has flush decks forward and

a small house aft, with a comfortable cockpit well aft. In recent

years she has done well in the Antigua Classic Yacht Regatta,

Regates Royales in Cannes and Les Voiles de St Tropez. In

her current ownership she has once again proven herself as a

superb family cruiser – gifted as she is with Alden combination of

graceful good looks, easy handling and good sea keeping.

€425,000 Lying Spain

59 ft Starling Burgess Staysail Schooner 2004

NIÑITA is a striking, strong and well proven blue water cruiser with

an amazing pedigree: a hull lines and rig replica of the Starling

Burgess-designed schooner NIÑA, once described by Olin

Stephens as, “the only boat he knew of that looked good from

any angle”. Built of strip plank Douglas fir epoxy by one of the

great schooner builders of the modern age, since launching in

2004 NIÑITA has been in almost constant commission as a very

able eastern north Atlantic cruiser and exceptionally comfortable

floating home, with a Baltic cruise north of the Arctic Circle and

many classic rallies and regatta wins - all just two-up - also

included in her impressive sailing programme.

£850,000 Lying France

60 ft John Alden Gaff Schooner 1939/1946

DIRIGO II is a fully functional classic schooner yacht of

impeccable pedigree, still sailing the ocean doing what she was

intended and built for - which is to take family, friends, and crew

on adventures: voyaging and sailing in style, in both communal

and private comfort, and safely. Two major structural refits under

present ownership since 2010 leave this handsome and proven

schooner a long way from retirement sitting at a dock as another

pretty face. The current owner is willing to participate and/or

assist in the re-location of the DIRIGO II as required.
