growing number of WOMEN

CARAVANNING

The number of women embarking on
caravan and camping trips has increased
significantly in the last five years, with a
million more trips being made by women
in 2018 compared to 2013, according to new
data from the Tourism Research Australia
National Visitor Survey.
In the year ending September 2018, 5.
million caravan and camping trips were
taken by Australian women with a total of
24.4 million nights spent around Australia.

This is compared to 2013, when women
took a total of 3.9 million caravan and
camping trips and spent a cumulative total
of 18.5 million nights caravan and camping
in Australia.
The largest age group was 30 to 54, which
accounts for nearly 50 per cent of the trips,
followed by the 55-plus group, who made up
almost 29 per cent of trips.
The research also revealed the most
popular activity among women who go

caravanning was dining at local eateries,
closely followed by outdoor activities such as
beach-going, sightseeing and walking.
Women who take caravan and camping
trips are also happier, more satisfied, more
optimistic, and more energised compared to
non-campers, according to Caravan Industry
Association of Australia’s Real Richness
report, where 74 per cent of women strongly
agreed that camping helps them ‘recharge
their batteries’.
