If my caravan/trailer ever
becomes detached from the
tow vehicle; God knows,
I want to break free
mounting inside the caravan/trailer, choose
a position where air can circulate around the

can be stored against it as they may activate
the test button.
Use the test button to test the condition of
the built-in battery. This should be checked
each time the caravan/trailer is used. Depress
the button momentarily and check the
battery level lights. The test button will also
energise the trailer brakes and brake lights.
The breakaway system battery must always
be kept charged so that the electric brakes
function correctly.
Charging of the Breaksafe battery canswitch if the caravan/trailer uncouples from
the tow vehicle, and this engages the electric
brakes and brake lights.
The breakaway system also has a built-in
battery that can be charged from the tow
vehicle's auxiliary line or by a battery charger.
An easy-to-operate test button is used to
indicate the level of charge in the battery.
And this should be checked before the
trailer is towed.
The Breaksafe should be mounted
internally but can be mounted externally
if necessary, although the Breaksafe is not
waterproof and should have a rain and
splash cover if it is mounted externally. WhenT
he Breaksafe breakaway system is a
safety device required by law to be
fitted to any towed caravan/trailer over
2000kg GTM, and is designed to apply
the trailer brakes and brake lights if
the caravan/trailer is accidentally separated
from the tow vehicle. If your caravan/trailer
becomes uncoupled while being towed, the
electric brakes are activated at full power for
a minimum of 15 minutes.
A small battery-powered unit is mounted on
the caravan/trailer and connected to the tow
vehicle with a metal cord, and a breakaway
switch with a pin is mounted to the A-frame of
