- CHANGE YOUR PARK HABITS
Make 2019 the year you switch to natural,
biodegradable personal and washing
products: soap, shampoo, sunscreen, kitchen
and laundry detergents too. Not only are
they better for your health and wellbeing,
but they are also kinder to the places they
end up in.
Vinegar and bicarbonate of soda are two
of the cheapest, safest ingredients around
and they are all you need to clean benchtops,
toilets, showers and floors. Sprinkle any
caravan surface with bicarb, spray with a
50/50 blend of vinegar and water, watch it
fizz, then wipe or scrub clean.
When mothballing the caravan after a big
trip, spray and wipe all hard surfaces with
vinegar mix, then follow with a mould-
resistant blend of 1/4 tsp of clove oil in 1L of
water and leave to dry.

Just because you are staying in a holiday
park doesn’t mean you should forget your
water and power-saving habits. Always press
the half-flush button on the toilet, and switch
the shower off while you soap up your hair
or your body.
A running tap can drain up to 16L of water
per minute from your tanks so switch it off
while you brush your teeth.
Finally, consider whether you really
need to wash down your vehicle or van, or
instead wear your dusty rig as the badge of
adventurous honour that it is (everyone will
envy you for having been somewhere wild!).
When you absolutely must give your rig
a rinse, use less detergent and more elbow
grease to reduce the amount of water you’ll
need to rinse off the suds.
TOP TO BOTTOM When mothballing after a big trip, use natural products; travellers have a unique
responsibility to care for Aussie environment and wildlife; learn to love the dust your travels attract
