TYPE D WHALE
Research is under way into
a rare species of orca after a
team of scientists encountered
the animal off Cape Horn.
From the research vessel
Australis, scientists collected
skin samples using crossbow
darts that will now allow them
to investigate the killer whale’s
genetic secrets.

DEEP SECRETS

This gelatinous creature (below)
left scientists “speechless” when
they spotted it 23,596ft down in
the Java Trench. Thought to be a
stalked ascidean, or sea squirt, it
was caught on camera during the
Five Deeps Expedition, which
allowed explorer Victor Vescovo
to become the first human to
reach the Indian Ocean’s deepest
point. fivedeeps.com

Infinity and beyond
The “entry level” of a new line designed by Fulvio De
Simoni for Rossinavi, the all-aluminum 138ft Infinity,
is a fast displacement yacht with a top speed of
21 knots, designed with the shallows of the Bahamas
in mind. Big boat features include a large garage,
master stateroom with fixed balcony and up to six
further cabins. Camper & Nicholsons is the exclusive
representative in the US. camperandnicholsons.com
