(Ann) #1

This clever tool makes

selections by seeking

similar pixels. The options

bar houses two key settings.

Tolerance goes from 0 to

255, which – if you know

about tonal range values –

gives some indication of

how the setting functions. It

determines whether the tool

zeroes in on a narrow range

of tones, or casts a wider net.

Contiguous, the other key

Magic Wand tool setting,

either keeps the selection

confned to one area or

makes an unconnected,

image-wide selection.

04 MAGIC WAND TOOL

TOP TIP

If you like the Magic Wand, try Color Range (Select > Color Range): it behaves in a very

similar way, but ofers more functions for fne-tuning the selected area.
