Ten Million Milestone

On 8th March 1956 commercial vehicle production at
the new Hannover factory started, with the first vehicle
to roll off the line being a Dove Blue Pick Up. Sixty-three
years to the day later, VW celebrated the Ten Millionth vehicle
to come off the line – a two tone T6 Caravelle. Following a
well-established tradition, this was donated to “Hannover AUF
DER BULT Children’s Hospital” Foundation. Thomas Sedran,
Chairman of the Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles Brand Board
of Management, handed over the keys saying, ““Volkswagen
Commercial Vehicles has been a part of the city for 63 years.
I am therefore delighted that our ten millionth vehicle is also
going to be on the roads of Hannover in the future, helping with
the important work of the city’s children’s hospital.”
The Caravelle will be used to take patients on excursions that
play an important part in their treatment and also to facilitate
a new programme in which specialists from the dermatology
department visit patients with serious skin ailments to provide
them with aftercare.

Oldschool Screwdrivers

There’s something
satisfying about using
traditional crafted
tools, both in the home
and on the bus. I just
love the look and feel
(and quality) of this new
range of slot-headed,
wooden-handled
screwdrivers from Gunson
Tools, the oval section handle gives these screwdrivers
a lovely weight and the natural feel of an older and
more traditional wooden handled screwdriver. The
blade extends the length of the driver so that they can
be lightly encouraged with a mallet or small hammer
if necessary, with no danger of any splintering of the
handle. The tips are finely ground and tapered for maximum
strength. Available in four sizes: 160mm / 9mm tip; 200mm / 9.5mm
tip; 250mm / 100mm tip, and a full 300mm with a tip size of 10.5mm;
prices from £12.80 > £15.24.
I am going to buy a couple of these!

And More From BBT

BBT continue to develop and add new metalwork to their
extensive range: you will have read about their new full-length
Samba roofs in Andybug’s column and just arrived is a new
batch of window frame panel runs in both 2 and 4 window
sections. Also new is their pre-assembled subframe chassis for
your bus; two versions to choose from, 55-59 with that extra set of
outriggers and 60-67 for the later models. The lower outriggers are
included but not assembled, as there would be no way to mount the
whole frame in position when assembled - you will have to weld this
after positioning the frame.
