Access holes
(pictures 7-9)

A rustproofing solution can be sprayed inside the sills and chassis
rails, so look for several access holes at 20-30cm intervals along
these areas. If a hole does not exist, use an electric drill and 10mm
drill bit (start with a 5mm pilot hole) to create a hole, then fit
a suitable sized plug to prevent water, road dirt and moisture
getting inside. Packs of plugs can be bought from rustproofing
specialists such as Rustbuster (01775 761222 http://www.rust.co.uk) for
around £3.
After drilling an access hole, paint around the edges of it to help
prevent any bare metal from corroding.

Spraying
(pictures 10-12)

When you’re satisfied your preparation work is complete, begin
spraying a suitable rustproofing solution inside the sills and
chassis rails. There are numerous rustproofing solutions, which
are available in aerosol cans, pumps or for use with compressed
air equipment. Do not fill up the sills and chassis rails – water
needs to drain out of them.
Spray over the exposed underside of the Bus with underseal or
a similar rustproofing solution that can be applied to the exterior.
Apply two or three coats. Wipe off any overspray with a clean
cloth soaked in a little white spirit.
