Volkswagen Camper & Commercial – May 2019

(ff) #1
and quality.
A few new parts have been
added to the list of available panels
from BBT this month and with
these I think that makes every
replacement panel available from
one manufacturer or another. Outer
Deluxe window panels had been
available in the last few years from
Brazil but they are slightly different
from the ones fitted to German
buses, so need modifying and the
supply has now dried up completely.
This weekend I managed to have
a look at the new window sections
and while I haven’t actually fitted
any yet they look to be the same high
standard as the other ones being
produced. I really don’t think it will

be long before we see someone in
Europe building a complete bus
from all new parts.
The front fit up of one of the
Deluxe buses has started with us
welding and bonding the front panel
in place, trial fitting the screen
surround and the two dog legs and
arch panels. With these panels
secured in place the doors can be

  1. Bonding the
    long side

  2. Trial fit to check
    alignment of long
    side panel

  3. Final fit of door,
    dog-legs and
    bonded long side

  4. Port’Power
    hydraulic ram being
    used to align tailgate
    aperture

  5. Setting final gaps
    and door alignment
    before paint

mounted and gapped, the doors are
then fitted with locks and catches so
they can operate as they should. It is
also very important that there is no
spring on the hinges when the doors
close as this will not only stress the
mounts but make the door hard to
shut, needing to use too much force
has knock on effects and damages
adjoining parts.
