upplied to Cactus Pete’s
Casino in Jackpot,
Nevada (aka the
Gambling State) as a
standard Microbus in Turkis and
Blue White, it was used as a shuttle
bus for guests. (Cactus Pete’s is still
going strong and nowadays is a full-
on Casino resort!) One interesting
modification carried out for / by the
Casino was the fitting of a swivelling
spotlight on the cab roof, which is
operated from inside the cab via a
handle sited on the cab roof air vent,
and this feature has survived intact
over the years. In fact, it was this very
thing that first caught my eye when
it debuted at Flat 4 Hangout and is
just one of many fascinating and eye-
catching things about this bus!
After spending many years
trundling tourists about it was
retired and little is known until it
surfaced in the for sale section of the
SSVC forum, looking a bit rougher
than it currently does, though the
shell was essentially sound and
some welding and body repairs had
been started. As soon as Adam and
Lee Edmonds saw it, they could
not resist it. Though they had the
necessary bodywork and mechanical
repair skills (they run Edmunds
Classic Restos in Burton on Trent)
this project would however test
them to the limit with the street
hot-rod inspired modifications they
had in mind to get the stance they
wanted. But they tell us it was “all
good fun fault finding and problemS
A stance to scare any ground-hugging
weed, coupled with original paint, patina
and signwriting make this 1962 Microbus a
bit special!
