bike that will suit Australian
conditions to a tee.”
ADB’s Adventure Editor
Andrew “Clubby” Clubb has
just returned from the recent
Ténéré Tragics ride and said
the excitement levels are at an
all-time high amongst diehard
Ténéré fans, “Money talks for a
lot of these blokes and a bike
that is so suited to Australian
off-road conditions at such a
cheap price is appealing to
them. But mainly a new Ténéré
is very welcome since the last
release was the 660 in 2008.”
Some pre-production units
will arrive in June as
confi rmed by Perry, but the
main Australian release date
for the new blue bike will be
December 2019. Jarvis Regan

assets of Alta Motors’ parent
company Faster Faster, Inc. but
says it has no intention to restart
operations of the former electric
motorcycle company. Instead, BRP
purchased Alta assets in a move
to bolster its investment in new
technologies and alternate
energy sources.
BRP stated the purchase
includes certain intellectual
property, patents and some limited
physical assets from the former
electric motorcycle design and
manufacturing company.
Alta Motors ceased operations
on 18 October last year, citing
fi nical diffi culties, and never
recovered. Founded in 2007, the
California company launched its
fi rst electric motorcycle in 2015
and quickly gained attention. The
Redshift MX looked the part and
performed as well, if not better,
than its 250cc petrol-fueled
counterparts.
In early 2018, Alta partnered
with Harley-Davidson who was
looking to develop and produce
electric motorcycles of its own.
However, six months into the
partnership things fell apart
and Harley established its own
research and development facility
in California to develop its own
electric technology. This was the
beginning of the end for Alta with
the company announcing it would
cease operations and allegedly let
its staff go as the company tried to
fi nd more capital.
Alta Motors has made no offi cial
comment on BRP’s purchase of
assets. ADB reached out to the
Californian company but they
failed to comment.
BRP has multiple brands under
its umbrella including Ski-Doo,
Lynx, Sea-Doo, Evinrude, Rotax,
and Can-Am, and will no doubt use
Alta technology in future products.
BRP already has electric side-
by-side vehicles and has created
electric and hybrid prototypes of
Can-Am Spyder. OM

for their full range of adventure
bikes, which were revealed last
year. The new 790 Adventure and
790 Adventure R will retail for
$21,295 and $22,695, respectably,
including on-road costs. Featuring
adventure luxuries such as
traction control, ABS, adjustable
suspension and a TFT display with
LED lighting, KTM aims to strike
the middle ground between off-
road weapons and comfortable
tarmac travellers.
Prices for KTM’s adventure
range have gone up. In response to
the increase, KTM National Brand
Manager Tam Paul said, “We have
been faced with many external
pricing pressures; the team at KTM
Australia has been working hard to
minimise the impact to the rider.”
KTM Australia Marketing
Manager Alana Baratto explained
to ADB that the latest range
update is a result of Aussie input,
“Each model that makes up the
KTM Adventure Range has been
purpose designed and built in
Austria with the experience that
we have gained conquering the
world’s toughest terrains.
“When it comes to purpose built
Adventure models, we stand apart
with very few competitors that can
offer the same design, technology,
endurance and quality. Take for
example the newest member of
the KTM Adventure Range – The
790 Adventure. This motorcycle
has been purpose designed and
built from the ground up, the KTM
Research and Design Department
visited Australia and spoke to
Adventure Riders about what
they wanted and needed from the
ultimate Adventure Bike. From
their feedback KTM went to work
to make the Australian Adventure
Riders dreams a reality... enter
the phrase which has been used
todescribethisbikeglobally“you
spoke, we listened”.
“The result is an adventure
motorcycle that has been built
from the foundations of the 450
Rally that has dominated Dakar
for the last 18 years, that offers
optimum balance, performance,
maintenance, 48mm front
suspension and 450km fuel range.
There is no competitor to this
motorcycle! In reference to pricing
at $22,695 ride away for the 790
Adventure R, this motorcycle offers
exceptional value for money.”
