There is something very appealing
about this efficient and attractively
priced new motor cruiser from French
yard Pogo. It may look a
bit like a sailing boat with
the mast lopped off but
thanks to its slippery hull
shape, lightweight GRP
sandwich construction
and single 75hp (or twin
30hp) Volvo D2 saildrive
engine, it has a top
speed of 20 knots. More
importantly, it can cruise
all day at a steady 12
knots while burning just
0.5lph, giving a range
of almost 300nm from
its modest 150-litre tank.
The need to keep the weight
and price down necessitates a fairly
basic fit-out with lots of lightweight
mouldings, exposed GRP and the bare
minimum of soft furnishings, but in
some ways that’s part of its charm.
The interior is nice and bright with
an open-plan layout that sees a vee
berth tucked in the bow screened
off by a pair of curtains and a couple
of settees either side of the table
that convert to single berths when
needed. A basic heads compartment
and a small galley ensure it has all
the cruising essentials covered.
We’d like to see some more
sociable seating in the cockpit to
complement the folding transom/bathing platform and a proper
outside helm as standard (the main
helm is inside with the option of a
standing helm in
the cockpit) but
for ex-sailors orbudget-conscious owners looking
to do serious miles, it makes a lot
of sense from both a financial and
