The Seaward 27 is an evolution

of the Seaward 25 with a longer

wheelhouse and a longer hull

with a built-in bathing platform.

It may only be 27ft 5in

(8.32m) long but the Seaward

27 will punch well above

its weight at sea thanks to

a proven round bilge semi-

displacement hull and a pair

of 110hp Yanmars on V-drives

for a top speed of 22 knots.

There are hints that a hybrid

version of the Seaward 27 is

in the offing, too.

There is something rather magical

about De Boarnstream boats. It’s

hard to put a finger on it but step

aboard and you can’t help but give

a little nod of appreciation. Whereas

some Dutch steel boats feel rather

staid and traditional, the Elegance

range feels fresh, modern and

luxurious in a very understated way.

example because the extra length not

only gives a sleeker, more balanced

profile but creates space for some

The main deck layout is all on one

level with the type of freestanding

designer furniture more often

found in trendy loft apartments. Big

windows all round and a classy helm

station wrapped in hand-stitched

leather should make it a pleasure to

drive, while a Volvo joystick takes care

of trickier berthing manoeuvres.

With a pair of relatively small

180hp engines tucked well

astern, most of the lower deck

is given over to cabin space,

most notably a fabulous full-

beam master with full standing

headroom, a totally flat floor

and ceiling, and one of the most

luxurious bathrooms we’ve

Below decks, the two vee berths

in the open-plan cabin have 6ft 2in

of headroom and to port, there

is a fully enclosed bathroom.

With prices starting at

£191,130, this boat is not

cheap. But then again, it is a

pocket battleship.
