THE DATA

There are engine options to suit
everyone: two IPS options and
three shaftdrive

There are levels to negotiate in
the master cabin but it’s worth
it for the headroom

The VIP cabin shares its ensuite
with the third guest cabin

between 22 and 25 knots. In the higher
reaches of the rev range, the motors begin
to make themselves heard but stick to these
speeds and it romps along very nicely. I
would avoid the smallest engines on shafts
or pods as they will be working hard to get
the boat on the move and, more pertinently,
you can’t have the balconies if you choose
them. If you’re going for a heavy spec and
intend to load the bathing platform with
a weighty tender then the extra grunt of
the 600hp D8s may be useful.
We had a good mix of weather on test
with a smooth Solent whipping up into
altogether more testing conditions as we

cruised past the Needles. The hull soaked
up the lumps and bumps very capably and
sprung on to the plane in calmer water
with alacrity. It’s a heavily built boat that
feels dependable and capable. You may not
be able to hammer through big seas at high
speed, but it will take care of you without
slams from the hull and squeaks chirping
around the interior.
The steering is precise enough to
encourage you to hand-steer through the
crests, especially in a following sea where
the Tony Castro hull relishes the challenge.
The geometry of both helm stations is very
good, especially downstairs where despite

BOAT REPORT

There’s no reason
for Galeon not to fi t a
handrail to the top of these
folding balconies to give
crew something to hold
on to when they’re upright
