(Jacob Rumans) #1
SAIL-ASSISTED
MOTOR YACHTS

Sailing Yacht A
Length: 142.8m Builder: Nobiskrug
Naval architecture: Dykstra/Nobiskrug Exteri-
or and interior design: Philippe Starck

Built as a “sail-assisted motor yacht”,
it seemed inappropriate that Sailing
Yacht A should be judged in either the
Motor or Sailing Yacht categories
because of her attributes in both fields.
This new category will endure for future
occasions when such a yacht is entered

  • and further examples of this hybrid
seem likely as we move towards a more
    environmentally-friendly future.
This is a yacht that divided opinion
among the judges, but it was clearly
    acknowledged, particularly by those
judges who visited her, that the
    technical and environmental aspects
of the vessel are truly extraordinary,
as are the scale and quality of
    her construction.

REBUILT
YACHTS

Genesia
Length: 40.3m Original builder: Cantieri Navali
di Termoli Refit Yard: Cantieri Navali Chioggia
Refit naval architecture, exterior and
interior design: A Vallicelli & Co

The judges saw Genesia as the ultimate
rebuild: starting out as a commercial tug
at the end of her working life and
finishing as a capable expedition yacht.
Genesia was stripped of her original
interior and machinery as well as
substantial superstructure before being
taken back to clean steel. Recreated with
a rugged look, she’s a yacht designed
to tackle the challenges of long-distance
cruising in both high and low latitudes.
Her interior, meanwhile, is practical
and comfortable.

Genesia kept the essence and the soul of the original supply
vessel. It was teamwork with the architect, surveyor and
shipyard, but this achievement wouldn’t have been possible
without the dedication and enthusiasm of two women: my
captain Maria and my wife Polissena

From the outset the focus for me was to build one of
the most advanced and environmentally friendly superyachts
on the water. It is an honour this work has been recognised.
The Neptune will take pride of place on board
