More to explore

Sanlorenzo marks its 60th
birthday with the 500 EXP,
which is sure to go far

A

party for 700 guests greeted the
floating-of of Sanlorenzo’s pastel
blue hull – the first 500 EXP. The
47.2m customised explorer yacht is an
evolution of the 460 EXP designed by
Francesco Paszkowski. The platform was
reconfigured and extended to accommodate
the Chinese client’s specific wishes: a
helipad and a garage large enough for a 7m
tender. The redesigned boat’s gross tonnage
is 500GT – hence the name. Two 1,320hp
Caterpillar C32 ACERT diesel engines power
the explorer, which is expected to reach a top
speed of 16 knots.
The 500 EXP was floated at Sanlorenzo’s
superyacht facility in La Spezia, Italy,
after a Buddhist ceremony, followed by a
more traditional blessing. Earlier this year,
Sanlorenzo’s 60th anniversary, the yard
launched the fourth 460 EXP, suggesting the
line and the yard have an adventurous future
in explorer yachts. sanlorenzoyacht.com

Rather than an enclosed beach club,
which Vallebona relates to a tender
garage, this one is open and connected
to guest cabins by a hidden deck door

The roof slides back to open up the
interior saloon. This is half a deck lower
than the bridge and leads to the cinema,
aft, and forward to the gym and sauna
