T

he rumours are true – the Jordan
family is buying a Perini. The deposit
is paid, and there are just a few little
things left to negotiate before we complete.
You might have heard of her: Helios, a 45 metre
Ron Holland design from 2007.
We’ve had this idea to buy a Perini in the
back of our minds for years. When Marie and
I were doing our circumnavigation on our
Oyster Lush, every time we saw a Perini we
always said that one of these days we’d get one.
Hopefully the deal will be done before the
Perini Cup in September, but even if we’re not
competing we’ ll be there on the boat.
I’m planning on doing less television work,
which will hopefully give me and the family

The yachting future is here for Eddie Jordan, with a new 45 metre Perini Navi, and it’s
looking particularly rosy. All he needs to do now is find the time to enjoy it...

more time to spend together on board. Trying
to run between this grand prix and that and
then find time for sailing is exhausting so
I’m going to enjoy the freedom to commit to
events like St Barths. I’m definitely interested
in racing this boat. I’m not going to pretend
it’s the quickest boat out there (not even by a
long shot – she’s a big, heavy girl), but she’s got
elegance and style in spades.
I’ve been looking around for a bigger boat
for a while. But wherever we looked, we kept
coming back to Perini Navi.

We’re looking at another circumnavigation.
Marie has already pinpointed the Galápagos
and Fiji. We didn’t spend enough time in Fiji

the last time we were there. The boss of Red
Bull, Dietrich Mateschitz, has invited us to
his private island down there – it’s an amazing
place. It would be great to get there in the boat
and spend some time in the South Pacific.
We’re not going to change the boat
drastically. She’s got a red hull at the moment.
I wasn’t crazy about it at the beginning, but
I’ve grown into it. I like things with a slightly
diferent style (remember the colours of my
F1 team?). I wouldn’t want a navy hull or a
typical colour and I certainly wouldn’t want
it white. My first choices would have been a
grey, beige or the taupe that Lush has. But we’re
going to keep her red, which is sort of sexy,
isn’t it? There aren’t a lot of red boats around.
She’s just been repainted, too, so the
colour is absolutely pinging. We’ ll
probably add some silver highlights
along the hull. We’re going to do some
recruiting, too. We ran with four
crew on Lush, but this boat will need
seven. But it’s no big deal – we had 10
on Blush and sometimes even 11 for
certain charters.

By the time you read this the Monaco
Grand Prix will be a memory, but
as I’m writing I can hear the cars
practising. The race is fun but the
most fun is when everyone lets their
hair down at Anjuna Beach in Eze on
the Monday after the race. It’s totally
out of control. I would hate to tell you
what Daniel Ricciardo’s bar bill was
last year, or David Coulthard ’s. And
Max Verstappen is not far behind.
They make me look like a total novice.
I’m going to need some time out on
our new Perini just to recover.B
